What will happen to me if I shoot an intruder with my husband's gun?

I'm alone with my 4 year old in the evenings. He left me his gun just in case. I don't know how I will react if someone will come into my home. If I shoot an intruder, will I be charged with murder and will my husband be in trouble if I used his gun?What will happen to me if I shoot an intruder with my husband's gun?
In the times we are living I do not think you will get into trouble, it is called self defense, ( you are allowed to break the law to protect yourself and your little child) just make sure that you fire a warning shot first and then you shoot to disable the person, so that you have time to phone the police or the armed response. You will only be allowed to use so much force as is necessary to disable your assailant from hurting you. I know it's crazy, but if you hurt him more than you absolutely must, you could be charged with assault, attempted murder, etc. I heard a white farmer was charged with attempted murder for shooting a burglar! I think your husband's gun is a good investment, but you should get some experience with it. Why not take a gun safety course whenever you have time, and learn to aim, so in the event of an attack you would shoot to disable rather than shoot to kill? (In the ';Streets of LA'; video game you get a ';good cop'; rating if you shoot a dirtbag in his arms or legs and book him, and a ';bad cop'; rating if you kill him. :-)) I strongly doubt a court might find a mother alone with her toddler who shot one of the ever-increasing assailants who break into private homes to commit rape and robbery (especially if it's a group), guilty of assault or attempted murder if she shot her attacker, but in SA anything seems to go. Don't count on using the gun without taking the safety course, and if you haven't already invested in other security measures, you should do so. A gun is always a last resort. Unfortunately, if you're seriously charged with something, your husband would at least be implicated as the source of the gun.
If someone breaks into your home, you should immediately shoot to kill them. However, if you fail to kill them after a reasonable amount of shots, and they have been stopped, you should stop shooting. Avoid shooting a perp in the back, but don't be overly concerned about it. Tell law enforcement that you feared for your life and your child's life, whether you did or not. Do not give too many details to law enforcement until you get a lawyer; however, you should at least state that you feared for yours and your childs life.
Main thing is to make sure he/she(intruder) is dead after you shot him/her!


You don't want to have to take care of your intruders family for the rest of your life.





Shoot to kill or don't shoot at all. Guns are there for protection. You are part of your husbands family thus you are allowed to use it.

If they are then it was self defense and if they are not then it would be considered murder.


As for your husband, I highly doubt he would get in any trouble, if its his gun and leaves it at home and someone breaks in, what else are you supposed to do?
i think its best if u just lock all doors and windows. But in a situation where someone does try to get in, call the police and if the intruder gets through before the police comes you can shoot him in the leg or something.
If your life or the life of your loved one is in any way endangered by this thug, shoot him 3 times. Just to make sure he gets the point.
no you would be the one prosecuted. Do you live in england or US, if England, you would be prosecuted but not for something as bad as murder
Dont let anyone fool u..trust me u would get arrested! When someone breaks into ur house ur the guilty one and they are the ones with rights! Rather lock ur doors and stay safe..
