He is not paying the card on time. Will this show up as a negative on my credit report?I am getting a divorce and have a credit card where my husband is the primary user and I am an authorized user?
not unless u signed for the card too.I am getting a divorce and have a credit card where my husband is the primary user and I am an authorized user?
The good news is that if you are only an authorized user and not the account holder, then you are not personally responsible for the debt on the card, nor will it affect your credit rating. The bad news is that if you are in a joint property state, half the marital assets are your's and so are half the marital debts. So even though you haven't run up any charges on this card, you may be obliged to pay half the debt. Speak to your LAWYER about how to protect yourself, if you can. Good luck!
The best way to find out is to get a copy of your credit report. Being both of you are on the credit card account, the company just might come after you for the payment as well; since you are involved in the account. Send them a written notice that after the date you split up with your husband, that you will not be responsible for any transactions on that account and ask they remove your name as authorized user.
It depends on your state laws. Ask the credit bureau...any of the major 3...they will let you know. I think it will. I just added my new hubby onto my old good account and was told his 'No credit' status will improve, since he is on my account now...I am in Maryland.
So, visa/versa...a bad credit account will affect a good one...the mortgage companies here will take the average of the two and come up with a new credit score for both hubby and wife, when they apply for financing. Although you are an ';authorized'; user, you also share the financial responsibilities and 'fault' if he defaults...unless you are held harmless for the account in the divorce proceedings...you can request that to be written in....same as signing off of each others retirement...; yet, the credit history cannot be written away. Good luck.
Nope as you're just an authorized user
Edit: NO it will not! Unless he gave your social security and DOB it will NOT go against your report!!
I'm an authorized user on my husbands but they have none of my information!
They issued me a card with my name on it but HE is the ONLY one responsible for making the payments! Unless you applied TOGETHER it won't affect your credit!
Better yet call them up!
yes since you are married to him still legally speaking and that your name is on the card and the account. i suggest taking your name off the card and account as quick as you can so that you can help to keep yourself from getting any worse of a credit rating.
Yes it will. And you better get to a lawyer to get it filed that if he puts any more on that card while you're going through the divorce and from that day forward, YOU won't be stuck for THAT half of the bill too.
I think it will
I dont think so, most cards when asked if you want to have an authorized user only ask for name and last name nothing else.....
It might. You need to stop using his card and get one of your own right away.
Yes, it will affect your credit report.
Nope, not at all... So in the words of Wilma Flinstone, ';CHARGE IT!!'; LOL
Yes I am almost certain it will!
yes i am sure it will.
