Do you and your wife/husband have to be catholic to get married in a catholic church?

Christians- I'm not asking if you personally think its okay, I'm asking if its allowed.

Atheists- I like the idea of a traditional wedding, I could get past all of the religious stuff to do that.Do you and your wife/husband have to be catholic to get married in a catholic church?
The bride or the groom have to be Catholic to be married in the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church allows marriage between Catholics and non-baptized persons. You will have to get permission from the bishop. This is because the Church recognizes the tremendous challenge you have ahead of you.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 1633-1637: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2s鈥?/a>

With love in Christ.Do you and your wife/husband have to be catholic to get married in a catholic church?
';Today it is common for Catholics to enter into a 'mixed marriage' between a Catholic and a baptized non-Catholic. Couples entering into a mixed marriage are usually allowed to marry in a Catholic church provided their decision is of their own accord and they intend to remain together for life, to be faithful to each other, and to have children.';

The key word there is ';baptized.';
It is up to the priest. Many roman catholic priests would not perform the ';sacrament'; of marriage for non-catholics because they want to make sure you know what you're signing up for, being married by a priest of the catholic faith. A roman catholic priest would truly believe they are joining you together for good, asking god to bless you and keep your union strong and holy. Not to mention that catholic weddings include a mass, and communion.
There only has to be one Confirmed Catholic in the relationship to get married in a Catholic Church. The person and/or their family has also have to be Parishioners of the Church.
It's allowed. You would not have a full Mass, however, because the non-Catholic would not be able to participate in Communion.

You'd have the liturgy of the word and the marriage part, but not the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
in short, yes

you/your spouse have to be catholic or baptized in close church, like Greek Orthodox

I'm atheist, married to catholic, we were wed in church b/c I was baptized in greek Orthodox
At least one person in the couple must be an active practicing Catholic Christian. the other has to be at least a validly Baptized non-Catholic Christian.
I had to hit my husband over the head several times to get him to comply.

God, he's such a condescending prick sometimes.
In boise, Idaho you do. I called and asked. The methodist churches usually let you though.
not necessary but if the woman or man are in another religion and they accept to get married in the church is Ok.. they have to speak with the priest..
read iamacatholic2 answer and give it best
