he says he feels to ashamed and it is somehow my fault and now he won't go back to his church. He is a recently baptized mormon. i am not.How can i help my husband to stop feeling shame for accepting his churches help to pay our elec bill?
Consider this thought from someone who puts it well
The strong help the weak, and the weak help the strong, and nobody thinks about who is weak and who is strong. It creates an extraordinary spirit of mutual love, because as we work to help others who are in need, our love and respect for those we help intensifies. How can i help my husband to stop feeling shame for accepting his churches help to pay our elec bill?
Life is not always about self-reliance. When we are stuck in a deep hole, are our friends and loved ones supposed to sit idly up at the top cheering us on as we dig and claw and scratch to get ourselves out? Sometimes in life, we just need a rope to be throw to us. Not a ladder, not crane- just a rope to help us climb out. And once we are at the top we only need to look around for other's who have fallen into their own holes, and redeem ourselves by throwing them the rope we were given first.
I am not involved in a church or religion. But that does not mean I am a stranger to love and frienship. These are things that a church and it's members are. The only thing that makes life worth living are the people in it, and we cannot go through life without sharing our ups and downs with them and vice versa. Instead of looking at what he is getting, have him look at what he will eventually be giving. No doubt he has been giving tithe? He has given to god in his heart and in his life, and with his checkbook. And now God is taking care of him, through the church. A faithful new member who needs help. To deny the money would be to deny God's gift- from a religous standpoint.
He only needs to give back by spreading the word and being a faithful servent. And when times are better- to give back.
first he needs to understand that the members of a church are family. families help each other.
this time it was them helping him.
tell him its now his job to do his best to one day be in a position to help another. thats what being a christian is about.
this is his opportunity to show his faith isn't just talk.
he has recieved a blessing, next time he will be bestowing one.
