I dont know if this will be any help,but when my brother was stationed in D.C. he was given a housing allowance which he said covered his house rental.Maybe you will qaulify for the same thing. Usually it takes a very long time. It depends on how many people and bedrooms you'll need. We were never anywhere long enough to get in, and we were in San Diego for 2 years. Good luck, and don't forget when you move into military housing you lose your housing pay.
I depends largely where what base it is you are trying to get on as well. In San Antonio it only took me about 6 months. It also matters what rank the soldier is. If your husband is not going to be gone for long I wouldn't reccomend that you try. You will lose your BAH and family seperation. (If you are entitled to it in the first place)
