He probably wouldn't wear a bracelet, is there anything else that provides a warning?Doctors have told my husband from birth that he is deathly allergic to asprin, how will EMT know not to give?
Would he wear a necklace made for a man with the tag on it? My fiance has medicene allergies and I am getting him a medi alert charm to wear on it. Also on his cell phone, EMTS are now looking for ICE ( incase of emergancy) You can put a number in it and a note with his allaergyDoctors have told my husband from birth that he is deathly allergic to asprin, how will EMT know not to give?
Before administering any medications, paramedics will ask a patient if they are allergic to any medications. That is when your husband should advise the paramedics that he cannot take aspirin.
Aspirin administered in the emergency setting is only to be administered in a suspected myocardial infarction(heart attack). It is not administered for anything else. If your husband is unconscious or confused, it will not(or should not) be administered.
Other than someone telling them, no.
Aspirin would be an interesting thing for them to give him tough, especially in an emergency situation. You can't really administer any pills while the person is unconscious or whatnot. They use subcutaneous injections of the vast majority of medicines, and I can't think of any that are aspirin based.
If the mistake does somehow occur, they have strong anti-inflammatory agents at hand to correct the mistake.
EMTs will find out what medical history they can through anyone at the scene who may know him. I would check with you local fire department and find out if they offer a ';Vial of Life'; or ';File of Life'; program. The File of Life program uses clear plastic, magnetized envelope that a patient can keep pertinent medical information in plain view on refrigerator doors. EMT and responders in those areas know to look for them. Good Luck!
